£450 million village to create 1,200 jobs, new forest, and a landmark destination...

Work has officially begun on Center Parcs’ £450 million Scottish Borders development, marking a major milestone for one of the UK holiday park sector’s most significant upcoming investments. The project, located between Hawick and Selkirk, was formally launched with a ceremonial tree planting attended by John Swinney, alongside local schoolchildren and Center Parcs CEO Colin McKinlay.

The new village is expected to create around 1,200 jobs and contribute £75 million annually to the regional economy, underlining the growing role of large-scale leisure developments in driving rural growth. The Scottish Government has also committed up to £30 million in infrastructure funding to support the scheme.

A defining feature of the project is the creation of an entirely new forest— marking the first time Center Parcs has established woodland from scratch. Hundreds of thousands of trees will be planted, with more than 30 species, forming the natural environment that underpins the brand’s short-break offering.

For operators, the development highlights the increasing importance of environmental integration and long-term sustainability in new park schemes. Alongside up to 700 lodges, plans include signature Center Parcs amenities such as the Subtropical Swimming Paradise and Aqua Sana Forest Spa, as well as nature-led features including wetlands, wildflower meadows and activity trails.

The scheme also reflects a broader trend towards destination-led experiences, with two new lochs, a nature and heritage centre, and a strong emphasis on outdoor recreation designed to diversify appeal and extend dwell time.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the investment, with regional development agency South of Scotland Enterprise highlighting the potential for supply chain opportunities and SME growth. Set to open in 2029, the Scottish Borders village will be Center Parcs’ first new UK development since 2019— offering a clear signal of confidence in the long-term strength of the domestic holiday market.

EUROPE’S FAVOURITE CAMPING DESTINATION

Castlerigg Hall Holiday Park in Keswick has been voted the most popular camping destination in Great Britain by campers from 33 European countries. The accolade comes from the ACSI, Europe’s largest publisher of camping information, which represents more than 9,400 campsites across the continent.

The family-run park, operated by the Jackson family since 1938, topped the poll for its combination of location, quality, and hospitality. David Jackson, who runs the park with his wife Jill and son Josh, said the award was “ a fantastic feather in the park’s cap” and praised his team for their contribution.

Castlerigg Hall offers a range of accommodation, from traditional camping pitches to luxury holiday caravans and touring pitches for motorhomes. The park also features innovative Hex Pods, sustainable glamping units with underfloor heating powered by renewable energy, furnished living areas, and kitchen and bathroom facilities beneath hexagonal glass roofs.

Earlier this year, the park won the 2025 Cumbria Tourism Award for Regenerative Tourism, recognising its commitment to protecting and enhancing the natural environment. Castlerigg Hall is a longstanding member of the Holiday and Residential Parks Association (HARPA).

SIXTY ACTS OF ANNIVERSARY KINDNESS

ROBERT AND RICHARD HARTLEY are celebrating Trevornick’s six decades in business with a grand giveaway.

The family behind Cornwall’s Trevornick Holiday Park will be marking six decades of hospitality with 60 Acts of Kindness to the local community and their loyal guests. So far, these Acts of Kindness have included gifting a free night’s stay at one of Trevornick’s popular self-catering cottages to an inspiring man walking the British coastline to raise money for charity.

The team have also carried out beach cleans, donated to local food banks, built extra bird boxes on site and perked up the much-loved Holywell Bay RNLI Lifeguards on a dreary day with doughnuts. The team has until the end of the year to complete the task of fulfilling all 60 acts.

The Hartley family and their Trevornick team have also been surprising guests with randomly placed ‘Diamond Tickets’. “To celebrate such a milestone for our park, we are giving back to our loyal guests, local community and beautiful natural environment here in Cornwall with 60 Acts of Kindness,” explains Robert Hartley who runs the business, founded by their parents, alongside his brother Richard.

“Diamond Tickets have been hidden throughout the park as a way to reward our wonderful visitors by offering them a fantastic mix of gifts and giveaways,” Richard continues. “So far this year, guests have enjoyed free drinks at on site bar The Farm Club to free holiday stays, and so much more.”
