STRATOSPHERIC SEASON AHEAD

STRATOSPHERIC SEASON AHEAD

Park Holidays UK is plunging £2 million into the building of a new luxury pool at Dovercourt Holiday Park in Harwich – and says its bracing itself for a staycation year ‘like no other’ in 2021. The group reports that it has given the green light to new investments across its 30-plus holiday parks as bookings for next year hit ‘stratospheric’ levels. “Make no mistake, Britain will be the place to be on holiday in 2021 and we are going to be ready for it,” says Park Holidays UK director Tony Clish. “Families will be seeking-out top quality experiences in this country as a substitute for going abroad, and that’s just what we intend to deliver,” he continued. “The group will be investing heavily this winter both in its leisure facilities, and in top quality accommodation such as luxury lodges, so nobody will feel they are getting second best.”

Many of next year’s bookings are from families who took a staycation this year and were amazed by how much more enjoyable it was than an overseas holiday. “Less hassle, less cost, beautiful countryside and coasts, and so much more for kids to enjoy - the time is now right for Britain to play up to its greatest strengths” said Tony. Work on Dovercourt’s new swimming pool began this month, and it’s planned that park guests will be dipping their toes in the water from next March with the complex’s interior decked out in a nostalgic seaside theme, plus pool-side relaxation areas and cascading slides.. Next year is likely to be the park’s busiest on record, according to Park Holidays UK. ”We do normally start to receive a flow of bookings around autumn across the group for the following year’s holidays, but this time it’s turned into a deluge,” said Tony. “We are responding by channelling major investments into our parks this winter and making sure that guests will have all of their expectations exceeded.”

STAYCATIONS SPARK HOLIDAY HOME BOOM

STAYCATIONS SPARK HOLIDAY HOME BOOM

Park Holidays UK is reporting an explosion in demand from new holiday home buyers with enquiries soaring fuelled by the likelihood that overseas holidays will be a no-go this year and possibly next.

Park Holidays UK director Tony Clish says his group hopes to avoid rationing the distribution of holiday caravans and lodges among its 31 parks. “We do carry good levels of new stock at present, and existing owners trading-up to 2020 models means that we should have plenty of pre-owned holiday homes to offer,” he said.

“Sales enquiries slowed in March when government ordered the shutdown of parks – but they’ve since been escalating to a phenomenal extent throughout spring. “I think there’s the realisation that one of the best ways to enjoy staying in the UK is by owning a holiday home where you can take breaks throughout the four seasons.

“That, of course, and the fact that a park is perhaps the safest of all holiday destinations with completely selfcontained accommodation set at least five metres apart. “The staycation trend was already well entrenched before this present crisis, and I think it is going to come back with a vengeance,” added Tony.

New Seaside Star For Park Holidays UK

PevenseyNew Seaside Star For Park Holidays UK

Park Holidays UK has completed the acquisition of Pevensey Bay Holiday Park near Eastbourne in Sussex. Formerly known as Martello Beach Holiday Park, the site boasts private beach access and a jetty for boats and jet-skis, and is the 28th park to join the Park Holidays UK group.

The site presently provides 265 holiday homes, both privately owned and available to rent, all set in picturesque landscaped grounds amid the countryside of the Sussex Weald. Owners and holiday guests are provided with a long line-up of leisure facilities including an indoor swimming pool, spa pool and sauna, and a fully equipped gym and fitness centre. Park Holidays UK director Tony Clish said the Pevensey Bay’s previous owners had done a magnificent job in creating a park which provides a true sense of privilege: “The lovely setting obviously gives Pevensey Bay a head start, but the park and its superbly high standards is a perfect match for its surroundings,” said Tony.

“As a group, we have always been committed to operating parks which offer only the very best customer experiences and the best value in their class. “That’s why we will ensure that Pevensey Bay continues as an ideal base for families and those who enjoy activities such as sailing, rowing, jet-skiing and sea fishing. “All of our parks make important and substantial contributions to the local economies where they are based by generating millions of pounds of visitor spending,” said Tony. “Our intention is that Pevensey Bay will build even further on the support it already provides to many local small businesses and the people they employ,” he added.

A new £1 million pool complex is being built at Seawick Holiday Park in Clacton.

One of Clacton’s largest holiday parks, Seawick in St Osyth, is investing £1m this winter on a prestigious new swimming pool complex. It’s envisaged that the new pool complex, complete with flumes and new changing areas, will be ready for the park’s re-opening in March. Owners of the park, Park Holidays UK, says the pool will benefit not just the local economy but also the environment – as it will be heated by a super-efficient biomass boiler.

Much more environmentally friendly than conventional heating systems, the green energy boiler will be fuelled by wood pellets and reduce substantially the park’s carbon emissions. Seawick’s new pool will complete a series of new developments at the park, which included the opening of a new £1.8m entertainment complex last summer.

Park Holidays UK Director Tony Clish, commented: “I am confident that our investment will help attract even more visitors to Clacton in the future, and this will also benefit the many other businesses in this part of Essex which rely on tourism.”

Park Holidays UK says that sales of holiday caravans and lodges to British families were up by over 40% on last year’s figures at the start of July.

The pulling power of the Great British holiday has never been so compelling. Staying right here on glorious UK soil for a holiday is on the rise. In fact more than a quarter of us are foregoing far flung exotic breaks this year in favour of home-based holidays.
Holiday parks across the country are enjoying the benefits of the staycation trend which far from slowing down, is in fact ‘hotting’ up.
“The notion that Britain offers the very best holiday experiences is, I think, becoming firmly embedded in more and more people,” says Tony Clish, Director at Park Holidays UK.
“It is great news for UK tourism providers, of course, but also for this country’s rural economies where many small businesses and jobs depend on visitor spending,” he adds.
Park Holidays UK says that sales of holiday caravans and lodges to British families were up by over 40% on last year’s figures at the start of July.
The rise in the number of holiday home buyers, says Tony, points to a robust future for UK tourism beyond 2016: “Families and couples spending thousands of pounds on a holiday home are making a clear commitment to enjoying domestic holidays for a long time to come.
“Just a fortnight after the uncertainty caused by the Brexit decision, our holiday home sales were up by 43% compared with the same week last year.
“Its early days, but the indications are that the domestic tourism industry is experiencing an uplift, and that this is also impacting on the sales of holiday homes.
“People now see Britain as their holiday future, and are literally buying into it,” said Tony.

BEST OF BOTH

The huge explosion of glamping has fed the staycation trend, with all manner of yurts, shepherd huts, safari tents and camping pods popping up in quiet corners of the countryside. The obvious appeal for holidaymakers is that they can experience the best of both worlds - the simplicity and stress-free environment of the great outdoors while enjoying home from home comforts, coupled with rustic country charm.
“Glamping is the big thing right now,” says Steve Hansford, Managing Director of Boldscan.
“People want to be able to tuck up in a proper bed at night and enjoy the warmth of a rustic wood burning stove.” He adds: “There has been an enormous growth in landowners and farmers who want to move into this business and offer people this experience.
“If the trend carries on as it is, we could see a lot more glamping style accommodation.”

Whether it’ is a classic safari tent, a futuristic geodome or a tent reminiscent of a Mediterranean villa, Boldscan has a complete range, as well as being able to offer advice from planning to finance. The company has recently launched The Kora, part of their Albion Canvas range.
This easy build, mini version of the classic safari tent sleeps two and comes in a choice of muted colours, ranging from light sand to olive.
The high quality tent is manufactured in Boldscan’s Somerset factory from heavy duty 415gsm polycotton canvas, which is fire retardant and water and mildew resistant. The tent includes a 650gsm PVC walled ground sheet and sectioned timber poles.
The inner tent is 4m x 3m with a wall height of 90cm and a central ridge height of 2.4m, so plenty of room for a double bed and space to spare. Outside, the covered porch area offers the best seat in the house.

Birchington Vale Holiday Park, formerly Two Chimneys, was recently acquired by Park Holidays UK.

Park Holidays UK has recently acquired Two Chimneys Holiday Park in the seaside village of Birchington-on-Sea near Margate in Kent.
Two Chimneys is one of the largest holiday parks on the Kent coast with around 300 privately caravan holiday homes, and 230 touring pitches.
The acquisition brings the number of holiday parks within the Park Holidays UK group to 25, all located in Southern England from Devon in the west to Suffolk in the east.
Already boasting a top five-star tourist board grading, Two Chimneys will now benefit from further substantial investment by the company in its holiday facilities.
It will also be re-christened Birchington Vale Holiday Park to reflect its location in 100 acres of tranquil North Kent countryside.
Tony Clish, director of Park Holidays UK, said that the park was a strategic and important addition to the company’s existing parks portfolio:
“This has been an extremely successful year for our group with an unprecedented number of holiday home sales and lettings,” said Tony.
“Birchington Vale will now allow us to widen even further in 2016 the options available to holidaymakers and holiday home buyers, as well as to touring guests.”

Cash Boost For Broadland Sands

Holidaymakers at Broadland Sands Holiday Park in Suffolk will soon be benefiting from improved facilities following a £750,000 investment by the park’s owners Park Holidays UK.

The redevelopment project at the popular seaside park in Corton will see upgrades to the guest facilities and the park’s central holiday complex where a new state-of-the-art entertainments venue will be created.

Tony Clish, director of Park Holidays UK commented: “The facilities at Broadland Sands were already of a good standard, but as a company we are committed to keeping our holiday parks one step ahead of the competition.

“That’s why, after taking over the business, we made it our first task to walk around and draw up a wish-list of changes which would add to guests’ experiences.

“We have budgeted three-quarters of a million pounds for these projects, but we are prepared to let this figure over-run if it gives us the results we want.”

Despite only featuring on the company’s website since the New Year, Broadland Sands is already among the top five parks for bookings.

Mr Clish says that holiday home ownership proved extremely popular last year across his group and that 2015 is likely to see demand rise even further.

Park Holidays UK Trigger £6m Investment

Park Holidays UK Trigger £6m Investment

Park Holidays UK has announced a multimillion investment programme for 2014 which will see new features and facilities introduced at all of its parks in south and west England.

The group says that the aim is to make the holiday experiences of guests even more appealing, and to ensure that the parks maintain quality standards of the highest order.

The schedule of work for the £6 million investment was drawn up with the assistance of feedback from its many holiday home owners. In a survey at the start of this year, homeowners were invited to submit a wishlist of what would improve the quality of their holiday lifestyles.

Partly as a result of the consultation, Park Holidays UK parks will see enhanced gym and fitness facilities, professional landscaping, redesigned restaurants and bars, and improved roads and lighting.

“Owners of holiday homes, who often spend many weeks of the year on our parks, are ideally placed to tell us what they consider would improve their experience,” said Tony Clish, group director of Park Holidays UK. “Their suggestions benefit the tens of thousands who come each year for short breaks and holidays, and work has already started on many of their recommendations.”

Other investments will include the proposed redevelopment of the group’s popular Riviera Holiday Park in Brixham. Subject to planning consent, the project will include the introduction of 75 extra holiday lodges and a new management building which will include a café/bar and gym facilities.

Park Holidays UK Under New Ownership

Park Holidays UK Under New Ownership

Park Holidays UK aims at the family holiday market on its 23 Southern England parks with some 9000 developed caravan pitches.

Investment trust company Caledonia Investments Plc, has acquired a majority stake in Britain’s fourth largest caravan holiday park operator Park Holidays UK.

The transaction values Park Holidays UK at £172 million, and the company will now benefit from a £10m acquisition and capital expenditure fund which has been put in place to assist future expansion.

The change of ownership will allow Park Holidays UK to strengthen the business through internal investment, and grow its portfolio of parks through careful acquisition within the UK.

Park Holidays UK has been run by its current management team of Jeff Sills (chief executive), Al Loch (chief financial officer) and Tony Clish (sales and marketing director) since January 2006, when they acquired the business from its founders through a management buy-in backed by funds managed by Graphite Capital. The company has since grown and now owns and operates 21 freehold and two leasehold holiday parks in the South of England.

Jeff Sills, chief executive officer of Park Holidays UK, commented: “Caledonia is acquiring a leading participant in the UK holiday market with excellent growth prospects. Caledonia’s forward-looking investment model will ensure that we can continue to enhance and expand our park portfolio, and I look forward to a long and rewarding relationship with them.

“I would also like to thank Graphite Capital which has provided Park Holidays UK with the support and encouragement which has enabled us to develop the business to where it is today,” he added.

Commenting on the acquisition, Duncan Johnson, Caledonia’s head of unquoted investments, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Jeff Sills and his team in the next stage of Park Holidays UK’s development. The new capital structure will ensure that Park Holidays UK can continue to enhance its existing parks throughout the South of England, and allow Jeff and his team to build the business through targeted acquisitions.”
